With 25% ownership by a South African based BEE consortium Altech UEC forms part of the listed Altech Group of companies servicing the converged multimedia and electronics market.
This support is delivered by enabling third party agents to perform repairs to Altech UEC decoders local to their country of deployment, by on site decoder repair support from Altech GDL field service support technicians or by Altech GDL establishing and running a decoder repair centre.

Rob studied his B.Eng in Electronics at Stellenbosch University and has also achieved B.Eng (HONS), RF and Microwave design at the University of Pretoria. He started his career with us as an Engineer and through promotions became a Director and in October 2004 he was promoted to CEO. As one of the world’s foremost providers of services, systems and software solutions to the global broadcast industry, Altech Multimedia, is a leading developer of digital technology for the pay-tv industry and specialises in the provision of integrated solutions comprising specialised hardware supported by innovative software solutions and global logistical support services. Products are exported throughout Africa and comprise a wide range of satellite and terrestrial set-top box models and a range of conditional access options. Altech Multimedia’s Mount Edgecombe headquarters encompass its renowned, leading edge manufacturing facility where solutions and services including systems integration and application development across multiple multimedia platforms are developed and taken to market. Stols’ association with UEC Technologies (a precursor to Altech UEC) started in 1987 when the company was then a leading manufacturer of military defence components. In the 1990s, Stols was instrumental in founding UEC Commercial, a company focussed on technology-driven ventures such as the design and manufacture of electricity pre-paid meters and electronic toll road systems. In 1994, under Stols’ leadership, the company partnered with Irdeto and MultiChoice to develop one of the world’s first Digital Satellite TV (DSTV) decoders. After a sabbatical of several years in the mid-2000s, Stols returned to Altech in 2012 to assist Altech Netstar in the redesign of its entire products and technology infrastructure. Stols has received recognition for his expertise in successfully taking local products to global markets, being a recipient on behalf of UEC of the Presidents Export Award from former President Thabo Mbeki. Brent is a qualified Chartered Accountant, and has his Undergraduate Degree in Bachelor of Commerce which he studied at Natal University (South Africa), and his Post-Graduate Degree: Honours in Bachelor of Commerce (B.Compt Honours) which he achieved from the University of South Africa. Brent worked his articles at Ernst & Young and has thereafter held many Financial positions in large corporate organisations, including companies based overseas.
